 BIO IN EN:
"The band started performing in November 2007. Their first mission was to create a party atmosphere on Monday nights in a restaurant bar in the center of Athens. The word was spread and their steady gig became a must for all music lovers that wanted to experience something new. The Burger Project can be described in a few words as a cover band with a "twist". Disco anthems, punk rock classics, pop standards, even some well known songs from the Greek repertoire compose their set list. Songs that everyone pretty much knows are transformed in a delicate manner from these innovative entertainers. "

-“The Burger Project” : τι περιλαμβάνει τελικά το σχέδιο-μπιφτέκι σας;;

Το σχέδιο είναι κατα βάση απόρρητο κυρία Σπέρυ και απόλυτα μυστικοπαθές. Συχνά πυκνά λοιπόν έρχονται κάποιοι ανάγωγοι και ρωτούν τα μυστικά μας. Λες και μπορούμε εμείς να διαλαλούμε τα του οίκου μας, λες και μας αφήνουν να ξεστομίσουμε μια κουβέντα. Ορίστε  μας... συγχύστηκα τώρα και δεν έχω και τα Ζαντάκ μου μαζί. Ταξί!!!

-Πότε και πώς γεννήθηκε η ιδέα να δημιουργηθεί η μπάντα σας;

Σ’ ένα σαλέ στη Ζαχλωρού, την κρατούσα αγκαλιά...Αυτή πονούσε, δεν μπορούσε, πονούσε μα σιωπούσε. Μετά αρχίσαν οι σπασμοί. Σφάδαξε. Φωναξα τη μαμή, άναψα τσιγάρο... Ούτε 2 τζούρες δεν είχα κάνει και τη γέννησε. Άχαρη και όχι πολύ συγκεκριμένη. Φορούσε ήδη τακούνια. Το Δεκέμβρη κλείνει τα 5...

- Κύριο στοιχείο της μουσικής σας, είναι οι διασκευές. Από ρεμπέτικα και rock, μέχρι παραδοσιακά και disco! Θα τολμούσατε να πειραματιστείτε ακόμα και με την κλασσική μουσική;

Δεν κλείνουμε την πόρτα σε τίποτα, πάντα υπάρχει η πιθανότητα κάποιος να χορέψει και να διασκεδάσει με Σούμαν ή Λίστ. Πάντως κάποτε παίζαμε σε surf το θέμα του ‘’καριοθραύστη’’ μαζί με αστυνόμο Σαίνη...Ο κλέψας του κλέψαντος. Ωραίο ηταν

-Η συνεργασία σας με τους δεξιοτέχνες Takim είναι μοναδική. Πόσο δύσκολο είναι να «παντρευτεί» η σύγχρονη με την παραδοσιακή μουσική;

Καθόλου...  Είναι σαν να ζευγαρώνεις ένα Λαμπραντόρ μ’ένα τσοπανόσκυλο.  Τα μπασταρδάκια θα είναι κουκλιά

-Ετοιμάζετε νέα δισκογραφική δουλειά. Τι τραγούδια θα περιλαμβάνει και πότε θα κυκλοφορήσει;

Η πρώτη φουρνιά θα είναι ένα EP με 4 ελληνικά κομμάτια και κάποιο remix. Την παραγωγή την κάνουμε μαζί με τον blend mishkin και συμμετέχει και η Ζαμάνη με τη φωνάρα της.  Είναι στα τελειώματα και πρόκειται να κυκλοφορήσει τέλη Δεκέμεβρη, free μέσω internet.  Στη συνέχεια θα ολοκληρώσουμε το LP μας που βρίσκεται εν αναμονή  στο συρτάρι,  με ξένες διασκευές. Έχει δυνατές στιγμές μέσα και ανεπανάληπτες συγκινησεις.  Μετά θα πάρουμε σύνταξη.

-Από την Κυριακή 4 Νοεμβρίου, βρίσκεστε στον Ελληνικό Κόσμο για την παράστασή σας «Μαμά θα κάνω μπάντα» που απευθύνεται κυρίως σε παιδιά. Ποιο είναι το περιεχόμενό της;

Είναι ένα μουσικό διαδραστικό performance, που στόχο έχει τόσο να διασκεδάσει τα παιδιά όσο και να τους δείξει τα βασικά στοιχεία της συμπραξης σε ένα group, να τους εξαψει τη φαντασία γύρω απ’τη μουσική και γυρνώντας σπίτι να αναφωνήσουν ‘Μαμά, θα κάνω μπάντα’’... πάει, φρίκαρε η καημένη.

-Ποια είναι τα σχέδια σας γι’ αυτόν τον χειμώνα;
Θα προχωρησουμε τα δισκογραφικά μέτωπα, με το EP και το LP στα προσεχώς. Συναυλιακά θα κοπάσουμε λίγο, αλλά θα κάνουμε κάτι τεράστιο, πραγματική υπερπαραγωγή λίγο μετά την καταστροφή του κόσμου. Πριν απ’αυτό θα γίνει μια σειρά εμφανίσεων με τον καραγκιοζοπαίχτη Ηλία Καρελλά γύρω στα μέσα Ιανουαρίου, η παιδική παράσταση θα συνεχίσει και τον Δεκέμβρη στον ‘’Ελληνικό κόσμο’’...  Την άνοιξη θα ονειροπολήσουμε για το καλοκαίρι, πάει τέλειωσε η σεζόν.

-Καριέρα στο εξωτερικό σημαίνει για εσάς μεγαλύτερη επαγγελματική αναγνώριση ή η διέξοδος από τις συνέπειες της πολιτικής κατάστασης της χώρας μας;

Με το εξωτερικό φλερτάρουμε, παίρνουμε φιλάκια και χαδάκια αλλά δεν μας έχει κάτσει. Σίγουρα σημαίνει περισσότερες ευκαιρίες με περισσότερο κόπο,  το σημαντικότερο όμως για μας θα ηταν η ψυχική ανανέωση, πόσο μάλλον τώρα που τα πράματα πάνε περίφημα σε τούτο δω τον τόπο.

-Al the X – king, Cosmic Communist, General ConZou, Mosch Holiday. Φανταστικοί ήρωες; Τα alter ego σας; Ή απλώς, ψευδώνυμα;;

Είναι φανταστικά ψευδώνυμα που αντικατοπτρίζουν πτυχές του alter-ego. Παράλληλα, -και πιο απλά - είναι κάτι extra στο παιχνίδι...

"It's really great to have this interview with "Mr.Dap" - Stani Vana from !Deladap!

Stani can be inspired from anything so to make his music..Actually, he has so many melodies

in his head that sometimes he can prepare a whole record in one night! That's why he is a

music producer, a DJ and leader of this great band, !Deladap.

We know each other since 2008 and i can say for sure that he is not just a good musician

but also a very good friend! 

-Stani, what does !Deladap mean for you in personal and what in general?

DLDP is this great musical power that is an essential part of my life, and always is at my side. It´s my way of talking with the people, talking with “the world”.

-You are a Vienna-based DJ, producer and musician coming from Czech Republic and your band’s members come from different countries like Hungary, Serbia etc. Is it difficult to understand all these different cultures and work with them?

Yes, that´s true! I was born in Prague, then still part of  Czechoslovakia. I left the communist system there for Vienna, but my roots and my personality are still very well connected and in touch with what you might call a very open “Balkan mindset”. This makes it easier for me to interact with all these people, even more so as ours is the universal language of music. Plus, we all see and respect each others as human beings, push our strengths and don´t care that much where each one is from.

How much has your band’s music style changed from the beginning till now?

Our musical style is our artistic path through the world. One time you're on a mountain, the next time you find yourself at sea, then stranded in the desert ... that´s a challenge, but also very exciting, as you have to try to stay true to yourself, find and keep your very own musical vision/style. I think with DLDP we managed to stay authentic after 10 years and 4 albums.

-Recently, you released your new album “I know what you want”. What is it about? Do you think that you know what kind of songs does your audience want to hear?

Yes, it may sound a little pretentious, but we do! The people who turn to our music, our records and live-shows share that special knowledge with DelaDap. The album-title simply reflects that, plays with it and also states that we´re more than willing to deliver …  

-Last February, you were nominated to represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. How was that experience and what went wrong?

Yes, we were nominated, and in my humble opinion – we won! Our song “crazy swing” that was originally chosen to be part of the Austrian competition for the ticket to Baku, had to be withdrawn because of a shitty live-video from a live-performance of an early sketch of that song turned up in the internet..which is against the rules of the EBU, who are behind the Eurovision song contest.

Shit happens, never mind. Tough, through the whole process – we entered the competition with a new song – a lot more people than ever before became aware of DLDP and our music. As for the whole thing: my opinion is, if you're at it, then you should make the best of it. We did and we had a lot of fun doing so.

-Would you like to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest next year but with a “nu Gipsy-Balkan” style song this time? Or you would prefer something more mainstream?

I do not necessarily want our music to become “mainstream” whatever that is. We will not conform to certain standards of sound or appearance and as I am happy when I am surprised, I love to surprise others and I hope I succeed in that, whenever and wherever. As for the Eurovision Song Contest – if the people of Europe and Austria invite us, any time!

-Which are your next steps/plans?

 Well, if I link music to wine, I hope I can make enough wine for at least the people to hear the good music drop by drop, sip by sip. Otherwise I hope we don´t run out of good wine so we can write more music and the joy of doing it is not lost.

-What’s the thing that you like the most? Playing & producing music alone as a DJ or performing with your band?

..which is a circle, with every part essential. I don´t want to miss any part of it. Daily exchanges with the musicians, wake up with a harmony in my head, jamming on a terraced beach, having heavy thought on the way to a performance, being annoyed by the ignorance of some people, totally excited to find new tunes, trying to find new paths. It´s the life for me!

-And what about Greece? Would you like to have a concert here, despite the crisis?

For me, any “crisis” remains stolen time. I mean, this is not the first “crisis” and will not be the last, as we should all know. I have no totally clear idea about the mechanisms behind it, but I think we should not let it irritate us, many will try to beat the capital and then become hypocrites in their own right. It’s not good! I stand for “love, and do what you want”.

DLDP would love to come to Greece and share our music with the people there!

Dj Spery meets... Kosta Kostov !

"Kosta Kostov is not a nickname! Kosta is a DJ, music producer and radio journalist who comes

from Bulgaria but lives and works in Cologne, Germany. He is one of the most interesting persons

i have met in my life. Little bit Balkan, little bit European, little bit International! A man who knows

how to keep his mind always open, how to unify everyone with his music and how to celebrate life.

He just has a big smile, a big heart and a Balkan soul."

1)    Kosta, you were born in Bulgaria and you live in Germany. What did you take with you from your motherland and what you preferred to leave there?

-    “Well..I live actually 18years in this country, in Germany and what I definitely took with me on my way from Bulgaria is..emotions-just emotions. Something that I really miss sometimes in this country, where the people are so well structured, well functioning, very rational and pretty much convinced in the things that they’re doing. I try to keep it not only for me but share it with all the people around me. I see it also, somehow, like a mission of mine and I think that’s a mission of all immigrants here in Germany, to bring some emotions and a bit of sex-appealing with them, everyday! What I definitely didn’t want to take with me is the, how I call it, “Balkan hate-love”. I’m talking about an extreme situation of sentimentality that makes you quit from thinking. This is something that I grew up with, I don’t like it and I think I left it behind..”

2)    What came first in your life, the DJing or the radio and when?

- “The radio! It was actually just after my studies in history and German philology. I was waiting for 12months to pass because they gave me one year to find a job here but then I realized how difficult it is to do so with a linguistic-history diploma, if you don’t want to stay in the “academic area”. I wanted to move somehow! So, I sent a lot of CVs and one day I listened to a radio station that I didn’t know before. I liked a lot their track list and on a Wednesday i think, I sent them an email where I was saying that their music is great and I wanted to work for them! I didn’t have the needed education but I was pretty sure that I could be useful for them. This is what I wrote! So, next day they called me and invited me for an interview and then I got the job! It was like a miracle..because I got the permission to stay in Germany and get my working visa, as well. I met some people after 2months who asked me to play a Balkan set for an event at an African museum! Everybody was prepared to listen to African music but I played Balkan! (laughs) So, this is how everything started back to 2003..”  

3)    How would you describe better your music identity/style?

-    “What I really love to play is Global Electro or Urban sounds from all around the world. I love to “dig” not only the gipsy-Balkan sounds but also Latin-African-Brazilian music..This “bastard” music that makes the electronic music richer and on the other hand, moves every person back to his roots and makes him to take them a little bit further to new Urban sounds. It’s difficult to describe because there are a lot of terms like: Balkan Beats, Bailefunk, Kuduro, Moombahton etc. These are styles that already existed. They just took a new name, a new face and they are very exciting for me.” 

4)    You are the founder of the “Balkan Express” party in Cologne. How this idea came up and when?

-  “The idea came up straight after I started working at this radio station, the Funkhaus Europa in Cologne and after listening to the Bucovina Club compilations of Shantel. I also heard Goran Bregovic’s soundtracks for Underground and Arizona dream, all these good movies that made the big boom in the 90’s..This music was something that I always had the idea to make but I didn’t have the skills to produce it. So, I had to start somehow and I started by exploring sounds from Ex-Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania etc. “Balkan Beats” is a term that Western Europeans developed and year by year, I noticed that is wrong. The Balkans are connected not only to a geographic term but also to a cultural one. There are Balkan Bands in France, in Brazil, in America..So, the “Balkan Express” is a party which interprets the idea of all these Balkan and gypsy sounds. It started in 2004 when I had to travel from Bulgaria and my plane had a 10hours delay so i went straight to the party with the whole crew with me! (laughs) “ 

5)What is the BxPsoundsistema?

- “It was actually a logical development of the “Balkan Express” idea. As I said before, I was bored to play every time the same tunes, like Bregovic and Shantel sounds (and I say it with all of my respect because they both contributed so many things) so, I wanted to do something on my own, my own production. This is when I got connected with a Greek producer named Giorgos Fotiadis (aka “Basement Freaks”) and we did together some remixes, some mash-ups etc…Then, he moved to Germany, we shared my flat and we were living together, making music with other musicians. That’s the idea of BxP Soundsistema (Balkan Express Soundsistema).

Today, I work with three more musicians, on compositions which are not only Balkan but also have some Global sounds..like in my DJ sets..”

6) You have done a lot of remixes for La Cherga, Watcha Clan, DJ Click etc. but also your own productions such as the “Balkan Train” and the “Mambessa” EP. What’s your next step?

-“Right now, I’m dropping out my new EP, the “French Wine” which is dedicated to..the French wine! (laughs) There were two EPs before that also showed how I was moving musically. The first was focused very much on the Balkan sound but even at that moment, I wanted to “open” the format and make it sound a little bit different than all the other productions which were very “folkloristic” to me.

I look for more fusion in my sounds..So this is why that EP (the “Balkan Train”) is more funky, break beat, ragga-dancehall style. The “Mambessa EP” has more belly dancing, shaky, cocek style tracks. Now, my third fresh EP contains the original “French wine” track, the “Peaches and Oats” track and some remixes by DJ Click, DJ Marcelinho Da Lua, DJ LK and Triplet Tricks. It is already released on the Juno digital shop, from the 2^nd of November.

Another project that I’m working on, is the video making of a new song of mine with my singer and songwriter from Cologne, John Felix. The video is almost done and I think that is going to come out in about a month.”

7) You have shared your decks with many DJs and bands, played in countless clubs and you have also taken part in many festivals. Where was the most exciting place to play music, so far and why?

-“Exciting for me, is when I get the public’s response so, it depends on it. There is always some energy between the DJ and the public. I got amazing gigs in France, in Spain..One of the festivals that I will always remember is the “Roskilde” in Denmark..However, the high light for me, was the time that I played in Brazil! I was playing at a restaurant in the capital of Brazil, in front of 600 people..They were applauding me without stopping, in the end! There were also some young local and foreign people (with Serbian and Croatian roots), saying “Thank you for playing my grand parents’ music’’! They were so illuminated and there was also one person who was crying from joy…It’s something that I will never forget, it was such a “touching” moment…but of course, there are plenty of them!”

8)You are a big lover of good food and you’re cooking a lot! Do you think that mixing music is often like cooking?

-“Definitely! Most of the best producers and DJs that I know, are good cooks! You always look for the best ingredients, the best quality of bread, of meat, of vegetable..It’s the same with music. You will always look for the best sample, the best kick or snare etc. You will have to combine them right, put them in the right place and in the right quantity & quality. Then, you will enjoy a good meal or a good mix!”

9)Speaking of your “French Wine”, why do you think that alcohol plays such an important role for the Balkan people?

-“ Why? You should ask my father, my grandfather, my grandmother or your father, your grandparents etc.! It’s a tradition that I’m not judging, of course, it’s just there! It comes from the Greeks, actually.. I heard that everything comes from them..! (laughs) It started from the Gods and then, came to the people! It’s a nice way to celebrate life, so..why not?! All nations, all people drink. They just have different drinks and different music..”

10)What does Europe and what do the Balkans, mean for you?

-“ It’s an individuation that is not needed. They belong to each other, culturally and politically. Dividing them, for me, means a lot of troubles. Europe is one.”

Μια βραδιά με τους Lego ..

Λίγο πριν προσγειωθεί το σύννεφο της «κρίσης», ο Αγγελάκας δήλωνε το 2010 ότι "η χώρα πρόλαβε να χρεοκοπήσει συναισθηματικά, κοινωνικά, ηθικά, πολιτιστικά και μετά οικονομικά", δίνοντας την καλύτερη δυνατή εξήγηση, σχετικά με το γιατί η Ελλάδα παραπατά ακόμα και κάνει... οκταράκια.

Με γεμάτο το πορτοφόλι, η πλαστική ευημερία ήθελε τον Έλληνα με σαγιονάρα και σκυλολαϊκοπ κουλτούρα. Οποιαδήποτε άλλη πρωτοβουλία συναντούσε δυσκολίες και αυτό διότι πολύ απλά δεν... πουλούσε. Μια νοοτροπία που αποδείχτηκε καταστροφική.  Μοιραία, αφού κατρακυλήσεις στον πάτο, θέλοντας και μη δεν πας χαμηλότερα. Η μουσική μετά από αρκετά χρόνια μοιάζει να αναγεννιέται μέσα από τις στάχτες της. Χωρίς δισκογραφικές και πολλά χρήματα από πίσω, αλλά με μεράκι και πόση περηφάνια…!

Παρέες όπως οι LEGO βγαίνουν και παίζουν με κέφι και όρεξη. Όχι για τη δόξα ή τις υψηλές απολαβές, αλλά γιατί δεν αξίζει να "θάβονται" όμορφες ιδέες και εγχειρήματα σε… γκαράζ ή στούντιο.

Αν και πρόκειται για νεοσύστατο σχήμα, παρουσιάζει ομοιογένεια, κατορθώνοντας με τον καιρό να ανεβαίνει σκαλοπάτια και να κερδίζει τον αέρα ενός δυνατού γκρουπ με δική του ταυτότητα.  

Σ’ ένα δουλεμένο πρόγραμμα, αυτοσχεδιάζουν, είναι εξωστρεφείς,  δεν φοβούνται να πειραματιστούν επί σκηνής, να τσαλακωθούν και εν τέλει δικαιώνονται από το ζεστό χειροκρότημα που εισπράττουν.

Τελευταία στάση τους, το Stage 25 στο Περιστέρι, την Παρασκευή που μας πέρασε. Zεστό μαγαζί , σε προδιαθέτει θετικά με το που το επισκέπτεσαι. 

Η ζεστασιά μεταμορφώνεται σε ενθουσιασμό λίγο μετά το σήμα της έναρξης και τις πρώτες πενιές του Μιχάλη Κεχαγιά (τζουράς, πλήκτρα, φωνή ). Σπάνιο το σουλούπι του, σπάνια ακούς έναν τόσο όμορφο ήχο, ακόμα πιο σπάνια φτάνουν στ’ αυτιά σου τα ρεμπέτικα. Ο Γιάννης Μπάκος στην φωνή και την ακουστική κιθάρα, χωρίς φιοριτούρες, σα γνήσιος ρεμπέτης,σε συνδυασμό με τα δυναμικά σόλο του Στέργιου Δήμπα (κιθάρα), την ήρεμη δύναμη, Δημήτρη Αζοράκο στα τύμπανα, τις… τσαχπινιές του Βαγγέλη Λάρυγγα (μπάσο) αποτελούν τα απαραίτητα… συστατικά για μια μουσική βραδιά διαφορετική. Ίσως οι πρώτοι που καταφέρνουν να συνδυάσουν τα ρεμπέτικα με την indie.

Άλλοτε με δικές τους συνθέσεις, άλλοτε με πρωτότυπες διασκευές και μουσικά παντρέματα, ενώ δεν έλειψαν και οι χιουμοριστικές παύσεις. Μια όμορφη αλληλουχία, ηχητικά και νοηματικά. Από τον Μάρκο και τον Χιώτη στους Coral και από τα κομμάτια του Παύλου Σιδηρόπουλου σε αυτά του Μάλαμα και του Αγγελάκα, το παρελθόν βρέθηκε με το παρόν και εμείς χαθήκαμε στο δρόμο..

Κάποτε ο Πρίγκιπας πάντρευε τα μπλουζ με τα ρυθμικά σχήματα του Βαμβακάρη και επένδυε σε στίχους αληθινούς και κακοτράχαλους. Αν βαστούσε η καρδιά σου τους σκάλιζες και αντίκριζες τις "αλήθειες σου να σέρνονται στο πάτωμα γυμνές". Η ευρηματικότητα του, φαίνεται πως αποτελεί πηγή έμπνευσης για τους Lego. Μαστορεύουν μελωδίες που πιάνουν τα riffs των Offspring και αγγίζουν την Μπέλλου. Χτίζοντας τουβλάκι, τουβλάκι την μέχρι τώρα πορεία τους, μας θυμίζουν σε κάθε τους εμφάνιση ότι έχουν... τσακωθεί με την ξεπέτα και δίνουν τη ψυχή τους για να περάσει ο κόσμος, αλλά κι οι ίδιοι καλά.

Γι’ αυτό και ο επίλογος έπαιρνε συνεχώς παράταση, μέχρι να κλείσει στο απόγειο της ευχαρίστησης.

When dj Spery meets... Gypsy Box !

"I met Abel (aka Gypsy Box) a few weeks ago at Womex Festival in Thessaloniki, Greece.

A DJ who is coming from Mexico, lives in Spain and plays World and Balkan music mainly.

His performance is so powerful: beats and bangers, sweet and bouncy grooves, madness and happiness!

-Who is Gypsy Box and why you picked this name?

Gypsy Box is a fusion of the folk styles from the Southeast European and Latin American beats  with the most eclectic sounds of contemporary electronic music.

I picked the name from the combination of all old music boxes and the gypsy energy.

-When did you start playing music and how?

I began to play music when I was 13 years old and played some instruments with different projects but with the same condition:

my love for the music. Finally I had to travel a lot and for me was difficult to bring my band and keep the projects in the different countries so naturally I developed to djing music so I could bring it in my suitcase.

-Which are your musical influences?

Balkan, Cumbia, Reggae, Folk, Rebetiko, Flamenco, Tropical, Dub, Swing, Rancheras. All the music with a heart beat.

-What about your Mexican roots? Do they take part in your musical style?

Yes, Mexican music has many roots,  because  of its geographic situation, I think Mexico has a big connection with Balkan music, actually there had been immigration from the Balcans  to Mexico, that is the reason why some zones in the north of Mexico are used similar instruments to play brass sounds. Mexico has also a gypsy community.

-What's the difference between life in Mexico and Spain?

Really I feel like in Home in both countries. There are many differences, obviously, but people have a big heart here and there. 

-A few days ago, you participated in WOMEX festival which was held in Thessaloniki (Greece) this year. How was this experience?

Great, really amazing. I was playing in the closing show and the energy from the people was beautiful, it was one of the best moments of my career. I met a lot of nice people there.

-Did you enjoy your visit in Thessaloniki?

Yes, a lot, but actually I couldn´t visit the city properly, but the food was delicious. 

-Which are your music plans for the future?

 I will be on tour the next months in Europe and I hope to visit Latinoamerica the next year.Here in Spain, I am working in a new project with a music duo, we have called it “Balkan Fitness”. 

-Where would you like to have a DJ set the most and with who?

Everywhere I can go and play and feel the energy from the people enjoying the show, that’s the place I would love to be.
